Using the Word to Encourage Others

Leaders

People aren’t going to accept the Gospel of Jesus, if we, His followers are leading hypocritical lives.

Remember you really aren’t just living for yourself. You’re here to lead others to Jesus.

“Awake to righteousness, and sin not; for some have not the knowledge of God: I speak this to your shame.”

(1 Corinthians 15:34)

Freedom

Saul (a.k.a pre-Jesus Paul) had to constantly seek approval from his superiors on the way to live his life.

But once he surrendered to Christ the need for man’s approval vanished. Jesus became the One he answered to.

There is freedom in Jesus.

Recognize humans’ judgments for what they are: opinions. Jesus is the only one with authority in your life.

What to do now?

You are loved

The woman gathered vessels from her neighbors to be filled by God with oil. This was a public display of her faith.

Later, within her own home and her door shut she and her two sons filled every pot to the brim. They did so privately.

Sometimes we experience situations or trials that seem to be on display for the world to see. As a result The Lord blesses immensely. Occasionally those blessings come intimately, between only you and Him.

That doesn’t make them any less significant.

God loves you. Allow him to show you that even when no one else is looking.

Psalm 25:14

II Kings 4:1-7

What Are You Consuming?

The priests had to okay the food the people ate. They stood each morning and evening to praise God on the people’s behalf. They also offered their burnt sacrifices unto The Lord.

They were in charge of the congregation/holy place/tabernacle.

In the New Testament we are referred to as the temple of God.

How do you handle the responsibility of being in charge?

What do you choose to fill your mind, heart and soul with? In other words, is what you’re consuming good?

Do you make a conscience effort to praise God daily?

Are you familiar with the benefits of sacrificing your fleshly desires for obedience to God’s truth?

You have free will. You get to choose how you serve. I encourage you to follow the Levites lead and be faithful to your God.

Obedience leads to gladness

Written in the Word was the detail of how the people were to “set under booths” during the feast.

The generation of people that were listening to Ezra expound on this scripture were unaware of this…until now.

So the people were faced with a decision: were they going to put forth effort and build booths or were they going to push it to the side, saying that it didn’t apply to them.

They chose to build the booths.

In their obedience they found “great gladness”.

That same gladness is available to us when we choose obedience to God’s plan.

Nehemiah 8:13-17

Self-Destruction

The Edomites had built a wall of pride within their hearts. They were self-proclaimed self-efficient people who had no need for anyone else. They could and would do it on their own.

But what about when the trouble would arise? What would they do if they were ambushed by an enemy larger than them? Who would fight with them on their behalf?

No one. That’s the problem with pride. It gives you false security.

Would you consider yourself like an Edomite? Do you refuse the wisdom, help, encouragement of others because you think you’re wise enough, strong enough or confident enough to go at it alone?

Could you call upon another Christian if Satan were to attack? Or have you turned your Christian family away so often that you have severed all ties?

Christians, be a blessing to those around you and allow others to be a blessing to you. God places us in each other’s lives for a reason. We are to encourage one another, pray for each other and help out if there is need.

Humbly give yourself over to following his plan.

Obadiah 1:1-5

Do your part

The Philistines took Samson’s sight from him. Samson begged The Lord to allow him to avenge the Philistines for the torture he had endured.

Within minutes Samson would realize that The Lord had given him opportunity to do that very thing. But for his desire to be fulfilled he would have to sacrifice his own life.

Samson brought the building down. In his death he slew more Philistines than he had in his life. Samson’s prayer had been answered.

Sometimes sacrifice is necessary to see our prayers answered.

Time…hobbies…plans…

Be willing to do your part in seeing your dreams realized.

Judges 16:28-30

Knowing God’s Will

What’s the formula for following God’s will for your life?

Communication with Jesus: Tell Him what’s going on in your life. Praise Him. Get in His Word.

Trust in God: Know that if you’re seeking His will, He’s the one keeping your heart and mind. Recognize that He’s the one placing ideas in your head, putting desires in your heart.

Dwelling on Jesus: Focus on what you know to be true. Not the what-ifs or could-bes.

In doing these three things you are giving God free reign to direct your paths, to put you where He would have you to be.
