Moses’ hot tempered reaction to the people’s sin left the law of the Lord shattered on the ground.
Soon thereafter repentance came. Forgiveness was sought. Grace was granted.
Moses trekked up the mountain a second time to obtain the same laws he had just broken.
The same exact words were given. Same exact materials were used.
Moses’ showing of disrespect to the law did nothing to sway what the Lord would write the second time around. It didn’t cause the Lord to make the commandments more lenient, nor did it cause him to make them stricter.
Because who God is and what He stands for is eternal, regardless of our reactions.
Take comfort in knowing that in this world there is always a constant: Jesus. He will never manipulate the commandments to satisfy your flesh but He will always offer grace to begin again.
The music died. Everybody froze. Uzza lay dead upon the ground.
“What happened?!?” someone in the crowd shouted.
“We were just walking along and the oxen stumbled. Uzza reached out his hand to steady the ark of God and then….”
The law flashed through their minds: “thou shall not touch any holy thing, lest they die”.
As you set out to draw closer to The Lord be sure to follow His lead. Don’t allow your flesh to get in the way of something holy. Trust that God has it under control.
