Using the Word to Encourage Others

Proverbs 29:18

Jeremiah 29:4-14

The Israelites could’ve died out in Babylon. They could’ve seen their captivity as the end of them. They could’ve given up all hope.

Instead they chose to listen to their God and grow.

They built houses, they grew gardens, they expanded their families. They made the best of the situation because The Lord told them that this wasn’t their end. He told them to multiply….to become strong because in seventy years they wouldn’t be captive any longer.

God gave them something to work toward.

Sometimes we feel misplaced. But God knows exactly where we are. He can use your situation for good. Look at it as an opportunity for growth. Ask for a vision to get you through the difficult period. Ask God to give you a goal to reach for.

Make the best of every season of life.

Milk Or Meat?

Hebrews 6:1

Acts 18:24-28

Apollos was adamant about preaching what he knew: John the Baptist. He was knowledgable of the scriptures and had a drive to share it with others.

Aquila and Priscila, Christians and traveling companions of Paul, sat in on one of his sermons. Afterwards they met with him and explained to him Jesus.

Apollos had a decision to make. Was he going to balk at the information that he had just learned? Or was he going to become a preacher of Jesus?

Apollos chose to believe Aquila and Priscila. Now the messages he preached would include the full gospel. He became a leader for Christ.

As you grow in The Lord you will come across truths that hadn’t been revealed to you before. Learn from these. Apply them to your life. Don’t deny them just because they’re new to you.

God gives us opportunity to grow. We should jump at the chance.

Ephesians 4:12

Hiram, king of Tyre, had just learned that Solomon had been anointed king of Israel. Immediately he sent word to Solomon. He offered his congratulations, spoke highly of his father, David, and made known that he would be there for him in any way that he could.

Solomon asked if Hiram would provide the lumber for the house of God. Hiram graciously agreed that he would.

Perhaps you’re an older Christian. You could be likened to Hiram. Hiram sought out Solomon, a new king, to offer what he had to him. As an older Christian you should be seeking out younger Christians to help them on their walk with The Lord. Jesus has provided you with wisdom, experience and endurance. Share it with someone new.

Maybe you’re like Solomon. He had just begun his reign as King of Israel. You’ve just started your journey with Jesus. Solomon was willing to take Hiram up on his offer to help. If an older Christian offers their help, like Hiram did for Solomon, be willing to take it. Learn from the people that God has placed in your life.

So are you a seasoned Christian that can be of help to a new convert? Or are you recently born again, in need of guidance?

Open your eyes to the Christians around you and be ready and willing to grow in Jesus. You may be the Hiram in somebody’s life. Or you may be the Solomon. Regardless we are in this journey with Jesus together.
