Using the Word to Encourage Others

Optimistic

Sarah laughed when she heard that she would be a mother in her old age. Probably because she had named herself as a forgotten, useless woman.

But time had come for her to make a choice. Would she be a help to herself and her future, or would she continue as before?

She chose her future. She chose to see herself as needed, helpful and loved. The Lord blessed her inkling of optimism and blessed her as mother of the nations.

God sees us at our best. He doesn’t hold our worst against us. Neither should we. Jump at the next opportunity the Lord gives you— I promise you there’s one coming.

Opinion

Noah built the ark because he judged God faithful.

Sarah put forth the effort to conceive because she judged God faithful.

Joshua led the people around Jericho because he judged God faithful.

…maybe these people had some doubts but when the time came to make a choice they chose to go through with the plan, to trust Jesus and His promises, because they knew God would be faithful.

How do you judge God’s faithfulness?

Look at how you handle the callings He puts on your life. There will be your answer.

Grace

“David they shouldn’t get some of the spoil we recovered. We were the ones who fought for it. All they did was hang back and watch our stuff.”

David looked at the haughty soldiers and said “it doesn’t matter that you fought and they watched the stuff. God was the one that gave the victory. Each of us shall be blessed equally.”

Be cautious that you don’t get to a point in which you feel that you deserve more blessings because you perceive your job as more important than someone else’s.

Our glorying should be in Christ and His grace, not in ourselves and our own works.

Purpose

Jesus, speaking to His Heavenly Father, said “I have glorified thee on earth: I have finished the work which thou gavest me to do.”

Could you say similar words? Are you satisfied with how you are handling the calling Christ has put on your life? Are you glorifying Jesus?

At the forefront of Jesus mind was to live a life pleasing to His Father. What’s at the forefront of yours?

No compromise

An old man hosted a couple as they traveled home.

The enemy came knocking on the old man’s door. They were looking for the traveling man.

The old man made a compromise and gave them the two women in the house instead.

One of the women turned up dead.

Tribe fought against tribe. Thousands upon thousands were killed because of the murder of one.

All because the old man figured it’d be okay to try and suffice the enemy.

Don’t be deceived.

It’s never okay to try to appease the devil. He will take what you give him and destroy everything he can.

Continue to give Jesus complete ownership of all areas in your life.

There isn’t any room for compromise.

Ministry

Phillip. Tabitha. Cornelius. All of these devout Christians had the introduction of ministering to the people.

Doesn’t that speak volumes?

Yes, they abstained from sin. I’m sure they gathered with other Christians to draw strength and encouragement. And surely they studied the ways of The Lord.

But their reputation was that they ministered unto others. They helped those in need.

Living a life in which you know Christ as your own is a great blessing. But living a life for Christ in a way that leads others to Him is even greater.

The Word

There are times when the teachings of Jesus are referenced by those that aren’t abiding by God’s Word.

Take comfort in knowing that even in these instances the Word can be used for His glory. The Word won’t go out and return void.

~God’s Word is powerful enough to be heard over the voice of the speaker.~

Background

Paul had dedicated his life to destroying those who had chosen to follow Jesus.

Then Jesus asked Paul to follow Him.

Paul accepted the call of The Lord and was saved.

Timothy was raised in a household that brought him up to know the Gospel as truth.

Jesus invited Timothy to be saved.

Timothy accepted. He too became a child of the King.

It doesn’t matter what your background is. Jesus is extending you the opportunity to come to Him for salvation. He wants to use you for the upbuilding of his kingdom.

Fear Not

The hunting parties had ceased. The farming had stopped. The children of God lacked food. They were dying of starvation within the walls of their own city.

The Syrians stood just outside the walls ready to ambush God’s children as soon as they came out for food….or so they thought.

God’s people were living in fear for no reason. God had already sent the Syrians away. He had caused them to hear a noise that sounded like a great army coming to destroy them. They fled, leaving everything behind.

Instead of being faced with an ambush the Israelites would be greeted with food, silver, gold, horses, and clothing.

Are you withdrawing from what The Lord has for you because you have convinced yourself that you wouldn’t be able to stand against the enemy? God doesn’t want you fearing the enemy. The enemy fears Him.

Go boldly in the direction He has called you. He has already cleared the way.
