Using the Word to Encourage Others

August 2017

I remember being in elementary school the first time I heard the parable of the laborers. I looked at my aunt while the sermon was still being preached and whispered “I get why those early morning workers were mad. I’d be mad too.”

She said “Well Codi Brown!” She went on to explain what Jesus was teaching. “…You should always be happy for the people that decide to follow Jesus.”

That’s the difference between judging things spiritually and judging in the flesh.

In the flesh Christ’s teachings are foolishness. But once we’ve accepted Him as our Saviour they become words of life.

I’m so thankful for my aunt’s wisdom. But mostly I’m overjoyed that I can look and see where Jesus has made a change in me.

My perspective has changed.

Has yours?

Cloud of Witnesses

Abel, Enoch, Noah, Abraham, Sarah, Isaac, Jacob, Joseph, Moses, Rahab, Gideon, Barak, Jephthae, David, Samuel, the prophets: these are people that lived out a life of faith. We can look to them for courage to continue to fight our good fight of faith.
If you are struggling find these people in the Word. Look to how they dealt with jealousy, friendship, solitude, responsibility, trust, leadership, unworthiness, obedience, and pressure. God has given their stories to help us as we live out ours. Take advantage of the wisdom at your fingertips.
Scripture taken from: Hebrews 11 & 12:1

Same Scripture

“Have courage.” “Don’t be afraid.” “God is with me.” “Go.” Joshua 1:9 has a very special place in my family’s hearts. It was the scripture that led us to KY. Today God used it again to comfort us as we enter into another phase of life.
The Word of the Lord is alive. Be careful not to skim over scripture because you think there isn’t anything you can gain from it. If the Lord has led you to it, then he has something for you.

A little disclaimer: We are not moving again. All of the kids are school age for the first time and we are preparing for the upcoming year. 😬
