Moses, in the Israelite’s opinion, had been gone too long. Along with his absence they were convinced God had left them too. In their minds they needed someone to worship, someone to follow, someone to devote themselves to and at this point anything would work–even their melted down jewelry.
They had been deceived into thinking that following after the One True God was no longer an option because they had no one to lead them.
They were wrong.
Because even when their leader wasn’t present God was still at work in their lives.
Jesus is our source for hope, not man.
