King Zedekiah was given an option: a) submit himself and his kingdom to the Babylonians and ensure life and peace for his country and himself or b) keep trying to make things work as they once were and face torture and death from the Chaldeans.

The answer may seem obvious to us: serve the Babylonians peaceably. But pride got in the way of Zedekiah. He would not humble himself to another kingdom. Therefore they all had to face the consequences of his decision.

Make the most of the best option God has given you. Trying your own way never ends well. And hold onto to the promise that even if you can’t see it now—He’s working it all out for your good.
