Using the Word to Encourage Others

Discernment

Colossians 3:17

We all face situations where we don’t know which way we should turn, how we should respond, or what the correct answer is.

A good question to start with is this: Can I do this in Jesus’ name?

Because If God isn’t being glorified and His name isn’t being well represented, then you need to find a different solution.

Regardless

Psalm 113:3

From the time you get up to the time you lay back down The Lord is to be praised…

Regardless of your feelings, fears or future…

He is worthy of your praise.

Back It Up

I Corinthians 9:14

Ruth 1:15-19

Naomi, her husband and their two sons had left their home years before, traveling to what they thought would be a better life for all of them. Instead, Naomi’s husband and two sons died in the foreign land. Naomi and her daughters in law were on their own.

Both daughters in law offered words of comfort to Naomi. Both spoke words of encouragement to her. But Ruth backed up her words with actions.

Ruth not only told Naomi how much she meant to her and that she would be there for whenever she needed someone…she showed her. Ruth left everything of her former life to become Naomi’s support, both emotionally and financially.

The sincerity of Ruth’s words shone through when she supported them with her actions.

Just don’t watch what you say, show it.

Measuring Stick

James 1:27

To have pure and undefiled religion before God you must:

1) take the gospel to the unsaved

2) keep yourself spotless from the world

Does your walk line up?

Top Of The List

Psalm 143:8

Luke 10:38-42

Martha and Mary had decided to invite Jesus into their home. He was to be their guest of honor. Much preparation goes in to welcoming someone into your house. Cleaning, cooking, etc. It really takes a servant’s heart to be a good host/hostess.

Martha and Mary scrambled around wanting to make Jesus feel welcome. Then He arrived. He began to speak. Mary stopped to listen. Martha didn’t.

Martha went to Jesus frustrated about her sister’s lack of help.

Jesus responded, “Mary hath chosen that good part…”

Each day we are faced with choices to prioritize what is going on in our lives.

Before Jesus arrived at Mary and Martha’s house it was the women’s top priority to make sure their house was welcoming to Jesus. But once Jesus arrived He became the top priority.

Constantly evaluate what is going on in your life. Keep your priorities in line. And remember that spending time with Jesus should always be at the top of your list.

Tough Times?

Matthew 10:22

Jeremiah 27:21-22

Do you feel like you’ve been misplaced? Are you at a loss as to why you’re experiencing the things you are? Maybe you feel like God has no idea what is going on in your life.

But He does. He knows exactly where you are. He knows exactly what you are going through. He is completely aware of your situation.

He’ll bring you through it. Trust in Jesus.

From Dreams to Reality

Isaiah 58:11

Acts 9:1-20

Saul had a desire to start his life anew…to live for Jesus. The Lord guided him directly to where he needed to be for his longings to be fulfilled. Saul received the Holy Spirit….his journey had begun. His dream of living solely for The Lord had become reality.

Is there something on your heart that you would like to do for The Lord? Is it something that will draw you closer to Him? Something that will spread the gospel? Something that you know has been ordained by God?

Whether you’ve had this desire for only three days, like Saul, or have had it for years, don’t give up on The Lord.

Jesus says that He is the one who guides us…that He’ll satisfy our needs and He’ll also give us our heart’s desire according to His will.

Too Blessed To Be Stressed

John 16:33

Matthew 9:2

Are you having a hard time? Are things not going your way? Do you feel bombarded by the things of the world?

Don’t be discouraged. Don’t feel singled out. Don’t feel like you’re all alone.

Jesus said we’re to expect tribulations. He even goes on to say that during these tribulations we can still be of good cheer.

Why is it that we can be of good cheer when our world seems to be crashing in on us?

Because we’ve been forgiven. And our “forgiver” has overcome the world.

Crowd Pleaser?

Proverbs 22:4

Matthew 6:1-4

Who are you trying to please?

Here’s a hint: do you tell everyone every good deed you do or do you leave it for The Lord?

Jesus will reward the secret, humble person openly…the ones that have broadcasted their good deeds: they’ve already received their reward: praise of men.

Wouldn’t you rather have God’s reward rather than man’s praise?

Humbly, quietly go about The Lord’s business.
