Using the Word to Encourage Others

Be Constant

James 1:8

How many times are you willing to deny your flesh to be obedient to The Lord? How often are you willing to disregard man’s advice when it goes against the word of The Lord?

What if someone continually pointed out to you that you were wrong in what you thought God was telling you….that surely God didn’t mean that….

Once a man of God was sure he had heard God tell him not to eat or drink from a certain area. At first the man of God was bold in denying himself food and water. But as time moved on his resolve weakened. A few offers later the man of God was eating and drinking where he shouldn’t have been….going directly against the word of God.

A lion destroyed him.

Learn from this man’s example. Don’t allow yourself to be coerced into going against what The Lord told you. Continue to stand firm in what you know to be right. Even if it means denying others and your flesh time and time again.

Divine Direction

Psalm 37:23

Maybe you’ve been facing a huge decision. You’ve been searching the scriptures for guidance from The Lord. You’ve been talking to Jesus, asking Him to show you the way.

But you just aren’t sure what to do.

Relax! You’re not going to mess it up.

If you’re living your life for Jesus, staying blameless and letting your light shine then the decision you make can’t be wrong. God knows your heart. He won’t allow you to “mess up” and shut the doors He has opened for you.

In the book of Revelation, chapter 3 verse 8 Jesus says: “I know thy works: behold, I have set before thee an open door, and no man can shut it: for thou hast a little strength, and hast kept my word, and hast not denied my name.

So go on. Walk boldly down the paths Christ is leading you in.

Self-Control

Proverbs 25:28

A comparison of two cities are given in the bible. One has been broken down, become desolate, and protection is nonexistent. The other sets on a hill, hard to be reached by the enemy. It’s industry is flourishing, a person can see the lights of it from miles away.

Our goal: to be like the city on the hill.

But how do we reach that goal?

Practice self control.

Deny your tendencies to rage in anger, to become jealous of your neighbor, to see yourself better than others, whatever isn’t of God get rid of it.

Be that booming city instead of one that lies in waste.

Keep in control of your spirit.

Equal Opportunity

Colossians 1:3

Queen Esther needed prayer. She was going before her husband, the king on behalf of her people, the Jews. She called upon them to pray for her.

They did.

The important thing to note here is that neither the queen nor the Jewish people allowed pride to stand in the way of their relationship.

Queen Esther could’ve thought herself too good to have to call upon the common Jewish people for prayer.

But she didn’t.

The people could’ve become jealous and turned on the queen. They could’ve decided that she was too good for their prayers.

But they didn’t.

The queen and the people didn’t allow their social statuses get in the way of their need for each others support.

Within the family of God there are many different people. Some are rich. Some are poor. Some are highly successful. Some are struggling. Some have been serving Jesus for decades others have just been reborn. No matter what their status each person can benefit from another Christians prayers. We are called to lift one another up, regardless of how well or poorly we think they might be doing. Pray for your fellow Christians. Don’t allow worldly success or failures affect your prayers.

God isn’t a respecter of persons. We shouldn’t be either.

Stand Firm

1 Peter 5:8

In Judges chapters 19 and 20 an old man hosted a couple as they traveled home.

The enemy came knocking on the old man’s door. They were looking for the traveling man.

The old man made a compromise and gave them the two women in the house instead.

One of the women turned up dead.

Tribe fought against tribe. Thousands upon thousands were killed because of the murder of one.

All because the old man figured it’d be okay to try and suffice the enemy.

Don’t be deceived.

It’s never okay to try to appease the devil. He will take what you give him and destroy everything he can.

Continue to give Jesus complete ownership of all areas in your life.

There isn’t any room for compromise.

A Servant’s Heart

Matthew 25:31-46

Impact others.

Feed the hungry.

Clothe the poor.

Visit the sick and imprisoned.

It shows your love for Jesus.

Great will be your reward.

Dear God,…

Romans 8:26

Sunrise. Sunset. These words describe the time of day based on the earth’s position to the sun. The sun doesn’t actually move. The Earth rotates. The moon rotates in synch with the Earth.

Joshua stood before the people of Israel and prayed. He prayed that the sun and moon would stand still while they fought a battle with the Amorites.

Of course the sun was already standing still. But the moon stopped…meaning the Earth did too. It stayed daylight until the battle was over and the victory was won.

Joshua didn’t know to pray “Lord, please stop the spinning of the Earth so that the sun will shine on us.” But God knew the desire of His heart when He prayed. He gave Joshua the results he was wanting even though the method wasn’t exactly as Joshua had asked.

Jesus hears our prayers. The Holy Spirit interprets them for us, revealing our requests to God the Father. Just bare your heart to Jesus. He’ll know exactly what you mean.

A Clean Slate

Lamentations 3:22-23

Welcome to a new day.

God in all His mercy has given you another opportunity to live for Him.

Make the most of it.

Behind the Scenes

Matthew 6:18

The poor widow woman gave everything she had to Jesus. She didn’t beg for an audience as she did this. She just humbly gave.

Her story is forever fixed in the gospel of Christ for anyone to read. Her testimony of love for The Lord has been passed on for generations.

Learn from her situation: serve The Lord regardless of who is watching and reap the benefits for everyone to see.
